Martin is the director of International Consultancy on Religion, Education, and Culture, and his brother Nigel is a longtime collector of guides to churches and sacred sites. The two bring together their knowledge to create a rather unusual travel book. Dividing their text into sections that cover ancient sacred sites such as stone circles, holy wells, and sacred cities as well as the pilgrimage routes to Canterbury and elsewhere that crisscross Great Britain, the authors cover religious influences from paganism to Christianity. The section in which they retrace well-known pilgrimage routes includes some lodging information, but it is not as extensive as in traditional travel guides. All in all, this interesting book will attract travelers who wish to experience Great Britain in a religious fashion.
